"Guess what, they have wild boars around here, and they're
fairly big and scary! Three times now while walking around
at night I've seen them. The first two times I saw a mama
pig with like four piglets and they were headed in my general
direction! Hard to know if I should be afraid for my life
or not! I hope I don't get gored. Last night I only saw one,
just up the hill a little from the path and munching grass
or something; that one wasn't too bad. I want to get a
picture but I'm afraid of scaring them.
Another interesting random thing they have here are published
screenplays of English movies; I guess you can follow along
to help improve your English and get help on some of the
interesting phrases and idioms, etc. I've also seen similar
books designed to help you read the English version of Harry Potter!
That's kind of cool.:

Latest email

"Church is good, they called me to be 2nd counselor for
the young men, all 5 or however many there are, and I have
 to speak on Sunday!  That was fast.
I caught a little Japanese cold but I think it will be all
right. My throat is a little sore but hopefully it will go
away soon. I'm eating relatively healthy, except lately I've
been enjoying buying and eating some junk food, but I walk
everywhere - maybe more than four miles some days - so I
think it might be okay! What's new at home? Are the leaves
turning brown already? I think maybe they're thinking about
 changing here but they're still pretty green. It should
be amazing when they do change, since the whole hillside i
s a mass of trees. I  will take pictures if it's worth sharing!"

(Since he's speaking in church Sunday, I sure hope he is in
the English-speaking branch! )

Welcome to the Blog!

I have sent out invites to all who I had an email address for and who expressed an interest. If there is anyone else who is interested, please email your address and I will add it!

David has sent us short emails (like a sentence or two) which he is sending from his new phone, which is Japanese, so he said texting in English is really hard!

Less than two weeks there, and he has already experienced his first typhoon, and lived to tell about it!

Received another email!

"I won't have easy access to internet for a couple weeks,
so be patient while that gets worked out.
Japan is great! Except it's still hot and humid, I hope
it cools off soon! I've met some of the other international
students, they're cool. My place is small but not too bad.
My floor has showers that take a prepaid card! Fortunately it's
only about 30c for 10 minutes. At least laundry's cheap, but
the machines are kind of small.
So far we've kind of been exploring and getting settled in.
I'm still hoping to find the church and figure that out;
I might not make it for conference butwe'll see!
I'm happy to report that Japan is actually fairly reasonable
as far as prices are concerned. I've done some shopping already.
It seems that food is a little expensive but not unbearable,
and things like dishes and kitchen stuff isn't too bad at all
if you go to the right stores. I wish I brought some peanut butter,
I forgot!

He Made It!!

Here is our first email from Dave. Google "capsule hotels"!!!!!!

I just made the flight,(in San Francisco) with JAL rushing me
through security. Guess what, I got upgraded for the flight
to Tokyo! Business class rocks! I sat next to this great older
lady from Sacramento, she was really nice. I already have
some pictures but I'm not going to bother with them
right now. It's about time for bed! Tomorrow I meet up
with some people from Kobe University and should get
moved in to my actual place of residence. Right now
I'm in a capsule hotel near Sannomiya station in Kobe.
It's interesting but neat and clean at least! Have a
